Maria
Cristina Ozzetti was born in Sao Paulo, on December 12th,
1958. At the age of four, her youngest sister gave her the
nickname 'Ná'. Ná came from a family that greatly
appreciated the arts. During her childhood, she and her siblings
all played musical instruments, Ná focusing on piano
and singing.
Ná's earliest professional experience
was as the singer in her brother Dante's band. She was fifteen
when they first performed at a school festival. Since then,
singing has been an integral part of her life.At the age of
seventeen, Ná attended university as an Art major but
never gave up her pursuit of music. She took her first singing
lessons at the age of nineteen with the American instructor
Lee Alison.
In 1979, at the age of 21, Ná began
her professional career as a member of Grupo Rumo. Over the
course of eleven years she recorded six albums and appeared
in countless live performances with this group. At the age
of twenty-two she began singing lessons with Claudia Mocchi,
with whom she studied for ten years. In that same year, she
began to take dancing lessons with Klauss Vianna. She soon
discovered her passion for dance, which led to studies with
Denilto Gomes, Ivaldo Bertazzo, Patricia Noronha, Adriana
Grechi, and others.
In 1983 she began her solo career, marked
by a solid musical partnership with her brother Dante that
continues to this day. While maintaining her solo career and
her work with Grupo Rumo, Ná got involved in other
musical projects, such as “Princesa Encantada”
(Princess Charming) in 1986 with the singer Suzana Salles.
In 1988, she released “NÁ OZZETTI”, her
first solo recording. This project was awarded the prestigious
Sharp Award and Lei Sarney Best New Talent Female Singer Award.
In the same year, she was invited by Itamar Assumpção
to perform in Germany, Austria and Holland. One year later,
she and José Miguel Wisnik starred a concert performing
songs he had written.
In 1994, Ná released the CD “NÁ”,
celebrating her debut as a composer. This album was awarded
two Sharp Awards, as best Pop/Rock Album, and “Best
Arranger” (for Dante Ozzetti). During this period she
also worked with the architects Isay Weinfeld and Marcio Kogan
who designed the scenery for her concerts.
1996 marked the release of the CD LOVE LEE RITA on the Dabliú
label. On this recording, Ná pays homage to the singer
and composer Rita Lee. In 1997/98, Ná participated
in many projects, most notably the highly acclaimed concert
“Ná canta o Brasil” (Ná sings Brazil),
directed by Eugênia Thereza de Andrade.
In 1999, Ná created her own record
label, NÁ RECORDS, and released her fourth solo album,
ESTOPIM. This CD brings a collection of original material
written in collaboration with Dante Ozzetti. The project also
features Luiz Tatit, Jose Miguel Wisnik, and Itamar Assumpcao.
In 2000, Ná was awarded Best Female Performer at the
Brazilian Music Festival promoted by Rede Globo (TV Station)
for her performance of the song 'Show', written by Luiz Tatit
and Fábio Tagliaferri. The award resulted in the release
of the CD “SHOW” on the Som Livre label, on which
Ná performs sambas from the forties and fifties by
such legendary Brazilian composers as Dorival Caymmi, Herivelto
Martins, Maysa, Ari Barroso, Tom Jobim, among others. During
the following years, Ná performed numerous times in
Brazil and abroad.
In 2004, Ná initiated a new
project with Dante Ozzetti, Mário Manga and Sergio
Reze, a work that will soon be recorded and released as a
new CD. Later that same year, Ná accepted an invitation
from the composer/arranger/pianist André Mehmari to
take part in the project 'Piano and Voice' at the Federal
University of Rio Grande do Sul. Acclaimed by public and critics
alike, the project resulted in the release of the Duo CD called
‘Piano e Voz’.
Along with her solo work, Ná Ozzetti's talents have
led to invitations to participate in the projects of many
other artists.
